A simple Mount & Animals guide since I see it’s a common topic in the SoulMask Discord.
The guide is divided into each animal and then the rest of the tames.
Fast facts before we dive in:All animals have rarities from lowest to highest: white, green, blue, purple, yellow, orange/red.
An animal’s rarity determines both its size and its stats. Higher rarity means bigger mount with better stats.
Saddles also have rarities, and the saddle’s rarity will further improve the stats of the animal it is equipped on.
Alpacas
Alpacas are the first early game mounts you should come across, these guys are very easy to tame and take no time to catch.
What do they eat?
Thatched roof, Potatoes, Quinoa, Pumpkin, Maize, Banana, Pineapple, Peanuts, Alpaca feed, Refined Alpaca feed
How to catch
Honestly, they’re easiest to catch in ancient ruins and barbarian barracks.
Since they are already in the cage, you simply need to pick them up and place them on the ground and from there whistle them and go back to base.
Look for these types of covers
Jaguar
Jaguars are another early game rider you should run into.
These guys can be difficult to catch and require a lot of patience as there is an event capture minigame associated with the cubs.
The minigame may fail
If the mother jaguar attacks you and you kill her before the baby hatches, you will have to start over, once the baby has hatched you can kill the mother.
What do they eat?
Fresh meat, fish, premium fish, meat, rare fresh meat
How to catch
What is needed:
Made 1-2 medium traps
any meat (only 1 needed per trap)
First game places
Early Game Locations
Pretty much anywhere you find jaguars, this place is very consistent
Event capture mini game
Search the game environment for Jaguar tracks.
Follow the tracks to trigger a capture event. Continuously scan and work with each new set of tracks.
Finally, you will see an adult female jaguar hunting wild animals. Stay hidden and watch the jaguar catch its prey.
Listen as the jaguar announces that it is coming home to feed the cub. Follow the jaguar slowly, stay crouched to avoid aggro.
When the jaguar reaches its den, it will give birth to a cub and the female will display the text “resting“. This is your chance to eliminate the female jaguar.
Strategically place traps and fill them with food.
Be patient and wait for the wary baby jaguar to approach the traps. Use Q (or the appropriate command) repeatedly to monitor and make sure they successfully enter the trap.
Finally, pick up your Jaguar and check its stats. Note: for black jaguars, it must have an orange quality
Ostrich
Ostriches are found in the desert. I highly recommend you bring items to deal with the radiation and some weapons to kill the ostriches near the nest that become hostile when you get close.
What do they eat?
Wild Fruit, Quinoa, Pumpkin, Corn, Banana, Pineapple, Peanuts, Ostrich Feed, Refined Ostrich Feed
How to catch
The easiest area to find eggs is north of the desert portal.
Q scans can help find them more quickly
Simply kill any ostrich you find.
Pick up the egg and take it back to base.
Hatching is very unstable to temperature; you can use a fire, but you may have trouble getting it to the right place for the temperature
Use of Air Heater (learned using Temperature Rise Technology, level 2 Iron Pit Bonfire). Patiently wait for the hatching and do not forget tii set the Gear setting to 3.
Llama
Editing is currently in progress and screenshots are being worked on
Alpaca-like llamas, these guys are very easy to tame and take no time at all to catch.
They are able to carry much higher weight limits (800 vs 350) which is great for gathering resources.
They can also carry unconscious barbarians or small livestock.
What do they eat?
Quinoa, pumpkin, corn, banana, pineapple, peanuts, llama food, refined llama food
How to catch
What is needed:
Made 1-2 medium traps
Any item they eat (only one is needed per trap)
Snow Leopard
Editing is currently in progress and screenshots are being worked on
Snow Leopards are endgame mounts and are found in the northwest snow area of the map, similar to the Jaguar these guys can be hard to catch and require a lot of patience as there is an event capture minigame associated with the cubs.
The minigame may fail
If the mother leopard attacks you and you kill her before the cub hatches, you will have to start over, once the cub hatches you can kill the mother.
The mini game is exactly the same as Jaguars, so I’ll post the fastest location to find it from the portal below.

Made 1-2 medium traps
any meat (only 1 needed per trap)
