MycenaeTotal War: PHARAOH DYNASTIES Trojan War Characters

The Mycenaeans are a major Aegean faction starting with no less than 4 settlements in the Eastern and Central Peloponnese provinces.

King Agamemnon leads it and his brother Menelaus of Sparta is available as a recruitable general.

Mycenae is easily accessible from Crete, Cyclades, and Attica. It builds faster and at a lower cost in the game, which is a testament to its impressive prestige.

Mycenae establishes itself as a bastion of civilization entitled to rule by asserting cultural dominance over its neighbors.

In addition, Mycenae’s influence on their territory allows the recruitment of free units from the respective native lists. The faction is rated easy in difficulty and is favored by the god Zeus.

The Mycenaean lineup is very good with using axes and spears to create damage with some of their infantry unit pulling up on enemies in a surprising manner.

However, their poor ranged abilities often put them at a disadvantage in skirmishes. Using spearmen with large shields alongside chariots, spearmen, and hatchetmen is key to maximizing the effectiveness of the Mycenaean roster.

Its notable units include an elite aggressive frontline unit, the Renowned Axemen, and an elite spear-wielding infantry, the Veteran Island Skirmishers.

Troy is a popular place in the Aegean faction which has 3 settlements in the Dardanelles province.

It is led by old King Priam, his sons Hector and Paris, and their cousin Aeneas, who are available as recruitable generals.

Their starting position gives them easy access to Thrace, southern Asia Minor, and sea routes that include the Aegean islands and lead to the northern lands of the Hittites.

Troy’s strength lies in forming alliances, gaining the respect and recognition of like-minded factions, and fostering wealth through these alliances.

The faction is rated as moderately difficult, favored by the god Apollo.

The Trojan faction roster is highly defensive, with strong armor values and excellent ranged units. However, their infantry units have lower damage compared to their Achaean counterparts.

Using highly armored spearmen to hold the line, ranged units to deal damage from a distance, and chariots to surround the enemy is key to maximizing the effectiveness of the Trojan list.

Some of the signature units for this faction are the elite defense unit, the Trojan Guards, and the elite archers, the Trojan Nobles.

A minor faction in the Aegean

From west to east: Ithaca (yellow), Aeolia (red), Boeotia (purple), Thrace (green), and Lycia (purple).

Minor factions have no unique faction commands. However, they have full access to elements of their parent culture: the royal court (Wanax, Heqetas, and Heroes in the Aegean culture), religion (Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo, Ares, and Aphrodite in the Aegean culture), and ancient heritage (Atreus the Conqueror or Perseus the Unifier in the Aegean Culture ).

Ithaca

Ithaca is a minor Aegean faction beginning in the island settlement of the same name in the province of Western Greece.

It is led by King Odysseus.

Her unit list consists of a solid frontline supported by strong ranged options, which is unusual for Aegean factions. However, they do not have any access to chariots and cavalry.

Aeolia

Aeolia is a minor faction in the Aegean that started with 2 settlements in central Greece.

She is led by Achilles.

His unit inventory offers strong flanking options, but few defensive units that act as anvils.

Boeotia

The Boeotians are a minor Aegean faction beginning in the province of Central Greece.

It is led by Ajax the Great and Diomedes is available as a recruitable general.

Like most Aegean factions, its unit list consists of solid offensive and defensive infantry, but with limited options when it comes to chariots or ranged units.

Thrace

Thrace is a minor Aegean faction beginning in the province of Western Thrace.

It is led by King Rhesus.

The Thracian unit list is quite different from what it was in Troy Total War as it is well-balanced rather than shock infantry-focused like it used to be. It does not excel in any type of warfare.

Lycia

Lycia is a minor Aegean faction beginning in the southern province of Asia Minor.

It is led by King Sarpedon.

Her unit list is a negative mirror of Ithaca, with powerful chariots but no ranged units.

Napata

Last but not least, Napata is a minor faction in Egypt starting with 4 settlements in Upper Egypt, not far from Amenmesse.

It is led by Prince Memnon, half-cousin of Hector and Paris. If you would like to re-enact Memnon’s journey to Troy, take advantage of the new sea routes available on the Nile and across the Mediterranean.

Like most factions from Kush and Nubia, Napata’s unit list is focused on archery.
