Space Engineers Splitsie’s Scrapyard Guide – I have bad news… your launch rover was deliberately designed to be unstable. This guide is designed to help you get through it as quickly and easily as possible.

Space Engineers Splitsie’s Scrapyard Guide

Some would prefer to think for themselves, so read on at your discretion:

Rover has several problems:

  • The wheelbase is too short.
  • The H2 tank (no use to you at this point anyway) hits the right front suspension. This is the main cause of “rolling over when I was driving slowly and in a straight line!” complaints.
  • The gyro is broken. So once you turn around you have a real problem…
  • Hanging the battery on the left side will make your rover unbalanced. This just adds to the above problems…

Solution

MINIMALLY grind the H2 tank – you don’t need it right now and you will find MANY small H2 tanks on your scrap path Crush the parachute hatch, small cargo, and associated conveyors.

You don’t even need them. Use the parts from them and the H2 tank to repair the gyro. Add some length and width to the wheelbase. I disconnect the battery, survival kit, and connector, program the block/gyro, break everything else and start over.

All the parts fit between your suit inventory and the connector and I found it less work to start over than using a piston/magplate to pick up what’s there and try to move things around.

Or, instead of building from scratch, use a piston and magplate to lift the rover off the ground. Attach the piston to the side of the skit.

Grind pretty much EVERYTHING except PB/Gyro/Connector/Battery/Skit Now REMOVE the battery from the cart, DO NOT GRIND.

PB and Gyro will free-fall as a unit, leaving them on the ground for a while. Reconnect the battery directly in front of the scene using the tentacles and connection blocks.

Connect the PB/gyro back to the battery, but lay flat, not with the gyro sticking out, orientation doesn’t matter.

Also, add a scrap beacon back to the top of the battery. Add a regular cockpit in front of the lighthouse.

You don’t have the glass to finish, but it will still work. Install the suspension and wheels, spread them front to back, and at least 3 blocks wide left/right.

Add a camera to the bottom of the cockpit towards the ground. Load the ‘Driver Assist’ script into PB – it’s fully automatic, doesn’t need any input from you, but will use the camera and gyro to keep you level on jumps, and even automatically flip you upright if you still manage to roll.

It also controls wheel steering, power steering, friction, etc. to prevent oversteering.
